Hidden Acres Music Farm

2010 Artist Booking Guidelines

Even though we’re still buried in snow right now, we’re hard at work planning and promoting our 2010 season of live music at the Hidden Acres Music Farm, northwest Iowa’s only outdoor music and camping festival venue, located just outside of Laurens, Iowa. We are now booking bands, musicians and other performance artists for this coming summer.

Again this year we’ve decided to use our “3M’s” - music, mission and merry-making - to help guide our schedule and events for this summer. We used this formula last summer and it really helped make each event unique and special! Although all the “3M’s” will still be evident at all our events, each different event will focus more energy towards one of the them, which will greatly impact how we book the artists for each weekend.

Mission is the primary focus of our Fire In The Flatlands Music Festival, June 11-13. We are looking for artists who use their talents and abilities to help better this world. This fest will feature lots of opportunities for personal growth and spiritual development, all designed to strengthen our community and further our mission to bring peace, love and healing to northwest Iowa and beyond. With one- to two-hour set lengths, there is room for lots of different musical styles to help accompany what promises to be an enlightening and empowering weekend!

Jerry’s Jam (July 30-Aug 1) will, of course, be all about the music! This year is our 12th Annual Jerry Garcia Birthday Bash so we’re planning some extra-fun musical surprises! With longer set times, fewer bands and two sets from most bands, Jerry’s Jam will foster an environment that encourages musicians to explore outside their musical boundaries while giving fest-goers the opportunity to experience live music without the time limitations of other festivals. We are again asking all the bands playing this weekend to pay tribute to Garcia by covering a couple Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia Band tunes.

Finally, merry-making will be the driving force behind our final festival of the year, the 3rd Annual Fall Frolic, Sept 24-26. This festival is all about the party so we need bands that really know how to make the crowd get down! This is one of the last chances to dance under the stars so we’re planning a big blowout to celebrate the end of another beautiful summer. Again, this fest will feature lots of one- and two-hour long set times from as many different bands as we can cram into the weekend!

Please keep in mind that this is only our third season so we are still a very young venue and are trying to keep our costs down as much as possible while we get established so we really can’t afford to pay a lot for any band this summer. If you can play for us for gas & expenses now, we’ll remember that when we get established and can actually pay bands what they’re really worth. We started this project to make lots of music, not lots of money!
